The journey of Ciriaco Campus, today General Manager at Mangia’s, in luxury hospitality between passion, leadership and new challenges
Inside Mangia’s | Growing in hospitality, with vision and leadership
Inside Mangia’s was born with the goal of telling the stories of those who, every day, contribute to shaping our vision of hospitality. Different paths, international experiences, professional and personal choices that intertwine in an authentic story of growth, ambition and continuous evolution.
This is the story of Ciriaco Campus, General Manager of Icona’s Costa Ragusa Resort
Let yourself be inspired by the journey that built his vision.
“New Zealand is the place that represents me most.”
For Ciriaco Campus it is a land of wide open spaces, contrasts and opportunities. A place still partly unexplored, capable of embodying a spirit of adventure, freedom and ambition.
Elements that, in many ways, also reflect his professional journey: a career built by crossing different worlds of hospitality, from family-run properties to major international luxury brands, always with the drive to keep learning and challenging himself.
Growing without ever stopping to learn
Looking back on his own path, Ciriaco identifies a lesson he considers fundamental:
“You never stop learning.”
A principle that has guided every phase of his professional growth:
“You must believe in yourself with humility, without arrogance, have the courage to express your ideas and put what you have learned at the service of others.”
For him, the leadership role in hospitality also carries a precise responsibility:
“We have a duty to pass on to others what we have learned throughout our experience and to try to ignite the passion in the people who work with us.”
Leadership means helping people grow
Over time, managing teams has taught him that true leadership is not just about operational coordination, but above all the ability to bring out the potential in people.
“Skills can be learned. Attitude, on the other hand, must be recognised and nurtured.”
For this reason, in recruiting processes, he considers it essential to look beyond technical skills alone:
“We must not fixate exclusively on hard skills. We need to understand the attitude of the people in front of us.”
And the leader, first and foremost, must set an example:
“You must trust your team, give space for decisions and allow people to take on responsibility. That is how growth happens.”
The true meaning of luxury
After years spent in the world of luxury hospitality, Ciriaco has developed a very clear vision of what luxury truly represents.
“True luxury begins when you manage to meet – and exceed – the guest’s expectations.”
For him, luxury is not simply aesthetics or status:
“Aesthetics is one component, but the experience plays a far more decisive role.”
The goal is to deeply understand what makes each guest’s stay memorable:
“We must be able to interpret people’s desire for luxury and transform it into experience.”
The human value in hospitality
Looking at the evolution of the industry, Ciriaco identifies the human factor as one of the most decisive elements for the success of a company.
“The human factor remains the leading voice.”
Alongside this, he identifies other key elements:
“Innovation, ambition, creativity. But above all, passion.”
A passion that continues to guide his professional choices to this day.
The choice of Mangia’s
What attracted him to Mangia’s was precisely the ambition of the project.
“The ambition of the Mangia’s group is tangible.”
A vision he recognised immediately from the very first conversation with management:
“This project represents a significant challenge in a destination with enormous growth opportunities.”
But above all, what convinced him was the possibility of contributing concretely to building something new:
“If in life I don’t have something that challenges me, I can’t be driven by passion.”
Looking ahead, with greater courage
Reflecting on the professional he was at the beginning of his career, Ciriaco would not change the choices he made, but acknowledges an important lesson:
“Perhaps I should have been braver.”
Advice he now feels he wants to share with the new generations in hospitality:
“Sometimes you need the courage to step outside your comfort zone and take different paths to truly grow.”
For him, every experience lived – even the less linear ones – has contributed to building a more complete vision of the industry:
“Having worked across different departments and roles still helps me today in my work.”
Building the future of hospitality
For Ciriaco Campus, hospitality remains first and foremost a matter of people, passion and continuous growth.
A journey built with ambition, responsibility and the desire to leave something for others.
Because, as he himself tells it, true leadership does not consist merely in running a business, but in being able to ignite passion and inspire the people who work alongside him.
